Kendal Calling…
Kendal Calling was possibly my favourite festival last year-I played with Rosie Doonan on the Kaylied Stage, saw Mumford and Sons on the same stage-and Frank Turner too. Lots of friends were there, lots of rum was drunk, lots of good times had…
So. How do you beat that this year Gary? Well…
Blag a slot on the Kaylied Stage; tell the whole world i’m playing at 12pm on the Saturday; transpires that no-one knows that I’m playing aforementioned stage at aforementioned time; get talking to a couple of girls who mention they were supposed to be playing the main stage that day,but couldn’t as the lead singer slipped in the shower and lacerated his forearm(ouch); get a phone call from the Festival director asking if i’d mind playing a slot on the main stage as a band have had to pull out…
You couldn’t script it,could you…
Play Main Stage; set preceded by a massive game of Pass-The Parcel(I think i may be the only Artist to have a pass-the-parcel as support act to a gig); set goes well(apart from my batteries falling out of my pick-up towards the end of my first song-skills Mr.Stewart, skills); sell 10 copies of album…
So,there you go. Could it get better than that? Well, yes actually.
Friend asks me and my violin player(kieran omalley-EVERYONE’S violin player) to play a festival 7 miles away as he can’t do it anymore; get lift to festival; play to some loveable crazy potterers; get paid £300 AND a hat gets put out; make £50 off the hat and sell another 10 copies of album; get asked to play a gallery in Penrith on the back of the gig; get back to the festival for 11pm; use the money from the hat to get drunk on more rum…
There you go. That’s how to top an already great Festival experience. On top of all that,it was great to hang out with Emily,Gav,Kieran,Adam and co. and see some great bands(highlights include Pulled Apart By Horses,Spirit Of John,The Crookes,Goldheart Assembly and Micky P Kerr).
See you again next year.
Oh,and i forgot to mention that i found £20 on the saturday morning…
Cashback.
G xx
